The Arts Committee
HURON, OH 1809-2009
The arts have played an important role in the life of Huron for two centuries. Our celebration will continue and enhance that tradition.
Activities presently scheduled include:
Drama: The Huron Playhouse will begin its 61st season as Ohio’s longest continuously running summer stock. This year the Playhouse will feature Thornton Wilder’s Our Town, set in fictitious Grover’s Corners, which might just as well be the real Huron, Ohio. The main troupe of actors will be drawn from Huron’s own citizens as this play is staged at McCormick Theatre from July 21st - 25th.
For other plays being presented at the Huron Playhouse during the 2009 season click here.
Music: The Huron high School Musical, Anything Goes, will be presented on May 1st and 2nd at the McCormick Auditorium. Witness another fine production staged by Huron High School’s talented vocal and instrumental musicians and dancers.
May 19th – come on over to Huron High School to participate in the Fine Arts Festival. Hear Huron’s award winning bands and choirs present a repertoire of their music in the high school gymnasium. Before the show, wander the hallways and lower classrooms of the school to
view Huron’s many talented art students’ works displayed for your enjoyment. Doors open at 5 PM, and the fun begins at 6PM!
August 2nd join us at the Boat Basin for an evening’s performance by the Ohio State alumni Band. The show begins promptly at 7:00 PM.
VOLUNTEERS
We need your help! Many ideas have been put forth to expand the opportunities to enjoy the arts for this year. Your help is needed to make any one of them a reality. Read through this listing of what we have surfaced so far, or contact us with your idea.
Drama: Update and present The Huron Story, a drama first presented in Huron fifty years ago and again in 1984.
Music: Help organize a musical revue featuring native Huron talent
Talent Show: Help present Huron’s very own version of the Huron Idol Show!
Art: Help organize a showing of art works in any and all media by Huron artists, from the past or practicing now, from anywhere in the USA. Their numbers are legion and they are GOOD!
Literary: Help organize and present readings, displays and sales of literary works by Huron’s writers at some type of Book Fair.
Reenactments: Be someone else for a day. Create and present a show in which you reenact famous characters, real or fictional, from Huron’s past.
